The Beginning of the End for Windows 8
If you’re still a user of Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system, then you’ll need to start considering your upgrade options with the end of mainstream support announced for January 9th, 2018.
After this date Microsoft will no longer develop the operating system, so the latest software packages will be unsupported on it, and may not even work. This is the first stage of the end-of-life of the product which will take place on January 10th, 2023 when security updates will cease for Windows 8 completely.
Windows 7 is already in the extended support period, with patches and security updates ending in 2020 and Windows XP is now completely unsupported with the extended support period finishing in April 2014.
We strongly advise businesses to ensure that their operating systems are up to date, fully patched and supported so that they work with all of your key business software and you are protected from cyber threats.
The obvious replacement for Windows 8 users is Windows 10 which is now shipped as standard with any new devices. This operating system was released in July 2015 and is highly recommended for any business looking to modernise their workstations, laptops and devices.
