For this month’s instalment of Wellness Wednesday, our People Director, Lee Green is sharing with you his first ever vlog post. Lee discusses some simple steps that we can all take (literally)  to improve our physical and mental health at work, as well as answering some questions he has received regarding the difference between Acute Stress and Chronic Stress.

Lee’s Top 5 Books For Self-Development

1)          The Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters

This book almost requires no introduction. For those of you who have not yet read it, it really does help you to understand that there are two distinct areas of the brain which operate independently. One is based purely on emotion and feelings, the other on logic and rationale. Our emotional side (Chimp) can cause us real problems and we should learn to manage it.

2)          Time to Think by Nancy Kline

This brilliant book by Nancy Kline is about listening. In life, we are so consumed with wanting to get our opinion/thought/story heard that we have forgotten how to listen. See what happens when you listen more…

3)          Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari

This is seemingly an odd choice for this list. It is a history of Humankind. The story of how we became the dominant species on the planet and where we’re heading. It is a sobering reminder that we play a tiny part in a vast story of which we have little control. Here’s the staggering fact…100,000 years ago there were at least six human species. Now there is just us.

4)          Games People Play by Eric Berne

Games People Play is about the ‘Psychology of Human Relationships’. How we speak to each other and how we attempt to manipulate others (even sub-consciously) are uncovered in this book. Learn to become more honest, open and a real team player.

5)          Black Box Thinking by Matthew Syed

Black Box Thinking is about how to remain in a learning mindset. Not writing people/projects/plans off, but instead, learn from mistakes and make the adjustments required to be successful.
