  • Make sure that the printer is online.
  • Make sure that your computer is connected to the same network.
  • Make sure that your computer is on the same domain as the target printer

Method 1 – Adding a printer via Printers & Scanners

Step 1: Opening ‘Printers & Scanners’

Click ‘Start’ and type ‘Printers & Scanners’

Step 2: Searching for a printer

Click ‘Add a printer or scanner’. Your machine will now scan for any available devices on your network.

Step 3: Adding the device

Click on the selected printer and then click ‘Add device’

Welcome to the HBP training video on adding a new printer. In this video I’ll be showing you a couple of different way to add a printer.

First, I’ll show you how to add a new printer via the directory. If you’re using Windows 10, open the printers page by clicking ‘Start’ and typing ‘Printers’ and selecting the option for ‘Printers & Scanners’. If you are using Windows 7, click ‘Start’ and click ‘Devices and Printers’. Now click ‘Add Printer’ and your machine will scan the network directory for any available network printers and simply click on the printer and click ‘Add Device’. In Windows 7 you’ll need to select ‘Add Network Printer’ and it will scan the directory.

Another way to add a printer would be via the network share. For this you will need to know the server name that the printer is installed on. For example, I have a printer installed on ‘dc01’ that I’d like to add to my machine. I simply open ‘File Explorer’, browse to the server by doing ‘\\SERVERNAME’, then right click on the printer and click ‘Connect’.

And that’s it for the HP welcome to the HBP training video on ‘Adding a New Printer’. If you have any questions or issues, please give the hardware team a call on 01724400304 or E-mail it@hbp-group.co.uk.
